Fall College Fair Attendees
Dos & Don'ts
Helpful tips from our college counseling team.
DO
- Do bring your KD drawstring bag for all the college collateral you'll be gathering!
- Do come dressed to impress. No tuxedos, please. But make yourself look presentable.
- Do show up on time to make sure you can meet and speak with all the schools you wish to see.
- Do get the counselor's contact/business card. They will most likely be your point of contact for that school.
- Do come excited! Present yourself as enthusiastic and ready to start the college process. Eat before you attend to keep yourself energized.
- Do have an open mind.
- Do come prepared with questions.
DON'T
- Don't bring your resume. Those papers tend to get lost or misplaced. Save it for your college applications!
- Don't bring your transcripts, test scores, or anything school related. Those will also be sent with your applications.
- Don't be on your phone. Making eye contact with the counselors can really help make your conversation more engaging for everyone.
- Don't come alone. Bring a parent or a guardian to make sure everyone is aware of all the opportunities available to you.
- Don't worry. It will feel overwhelming at first, but you'll be just fine once you start talking to the admissions reps. You can also ask our college counseling team for some help if you need it.
- Don't push or shove. There will be many students and families waiting to speak to the reps. Be patient.
- Don't leave the fair without any information. Bring it home and look at it thoroughly.
- Don't stay at a table any longer than 5 minutes. There's a lot going on and limited time. Get your basic information and move to the next table.
- Don't focus solely on certain schools. Visit with all the reps, if you can. You might uncover a hidden gem.
- Don't ask about your chance of getting in. This isn't an admissions interview.
- Don't forget to follow up with a thank you email to the admissions officers you talk to.
Questions to Ask
Come prepared. Here are a few sample questions to get you started.

- What services does your school offer for career and professional development?
- What's the ratio of on-campus students vs. commuter students?
- What do students on your campus do for fun?
- What's the average freshman class size?
- Does your school partner with any medical/law/graduate schools for admissions?
- If I were able to visit the campus, could I attend a class in my anticipated field of study?
