9th Grade Complete™ Test Prep
Note: Unless a student’s situation requires starting classes by April 30, 2025, we recommend signing up to start this summer as a 10th grader. Questions? Please schedule a free consultation to discuss further with an advisor.
Complete Test Prep is KD’s signature program for the PSAT/NMSQT®, SAT®, and ACT® tests. Built on more than 30 years of test prep experience, the program consists of three major elements that all work together for a student’s maximum success: Lessons and Bonus Lessons, Workshops, and Practice Tests with Reviews.
With us, you don’t pay a fee each year. What does that mean for 9th graders? That means these students get the benefit of multiple years of consistent practice for the national tests while NEVER seeing the same curriculum twice—all for a one-time price instead of an annual fee.
Students can attend test prep activities online from anywhere or in person at one of our four campuses located in Dallas-Fort Worth: Frisco, Plano, Coppell, and Flower Mound.
Let’s take a look at everything that’s included in the 9th Grade Complete Test Prep Program, but remember that your test prep plan can be adjusted to fit your specific needs.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
Initial Diagnostic Test
New students take an initial diagnostic test before beginning their first set of lessons. This test helps establish a baseline score to track progress throughout the program and in some cases, helps place the student into a class section with similarly scoring students.
Student and Parent Orientation
During the registration process, students and their families choose either a live online orientation session to attend or an on-demand orientation session to view before beginning their initial set of lessons.
Understanding the program is the key to a student’s success and in turn leads to the highest score increases. That’s why we provide an orientation. Plus, it’s a great time to ask questions! Families also will attend grade-level specific college planning seminars each year for additional guidance and resources (see “College Planning & Guidance Seminar” below).
Lessons for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT Tests
This course includes three sets of unique lessons for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests.
These two-hour, lecture-style classes use our proprietary curriculum, updated every year to reflect changes in the national testing environment. Lessons teach students content and concepts from the national tests, how to approach question types, and how to apply specific strategies to get answers quickly and confidently.
There are 14 scheduled class times: six math lessons, six verbal lessons, a post-lesson diagnostic test, and a final lesson that reviews strategies and summarizes next steps for a student’s best results.
A 9th grader would get a unique set of lessons in 9th grade, 10th grade, and 11th grade. (In most cases, 12th graders would not go through an additional set of lessons. Instead, we build a unique plan for them based on their individual needs).
Intro Lessons for the ACT Test
As students progress through the Complete Program, they can attend two on-demand lessons that introduce the basic content and test format found on the ACT test.
Bonus Lessons for the ACT Test
As they progress through the program, students also attend additional sets of six lessons (English, Math A, Math B, Reading, Science A, and Science B) that provide more in-depth instruction for the exclusive content found on the ACT test. Students typically attend a set of bonus lessons in 10th grade and another one in 11th grade.
KD Student Portal
Complete Program students will also have access to the KD Student Portal for extra instruction, practice, guidance, and registration for various program activities.
Homework Assignments
Each lesson contains 30-45 minutes of homework specific to that lesson for extra practice. Homework answers and explanations are found within the student portal.
Weekly, Instructor-Led Workshops
Instructor-led workshops provide year-round, targeted practice and mastery of content and strategies for the tests’ most challenging material. From the beginning of their program, we recommend students attend at least four hours of workshops every month for as long as they are enrolled at KD. Students joining in the 9th grade will NEVER see the same curriculum twice during their time at KD.
Our workshops feature new curriculum weekly, and bonus workshops are available during SAT and ACT test weeks and holidays.
Practice Tests With Reviews
Full-length practice tests for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests help students build mental endurance and put it all together.
After taking a practice test, students receive a detailed score report identifying their strengths and weaknesses.
Students review each practice test using self-correction for easier problems, guided explanations for more difficult problems, and personalized help sessions for the most challenging problems. The goal is to incrementally improve test-taking skills while learning from mistakes. Each practice test must be reviewed before taking additional tests.
RX for Success
We track students’ activity and progress. The “RX for Success” performance reports help students stay on track and keep parents informed throughout the program. These reports are generally sent each month.
College Planning & Guidance Seminars
During our annual planning and guidance seminars, we help families build a roadmap for the college admissions journey. These sessions are available to our Complete Program families at no additional cost.
More specific guidance is available for an additional fee. These services include college counseling, one-on-one tutoring for specific parts of the national tests, and special events such as our Apply Now! Boot Camps.
